Cons: Nothing.
I learned a lot. I especially liked the aspect of multi media (flims, novels, philosophy, news items, etc.)

Worst Philosophy professor ever. I have never experienced such ineptitude. Half the class can teach the class better than she can. She missed 8 days of lecture, or 4 entire weeks of this class. She would get guest lecturers to stand in for her who had NO IDEA what to talk about. She is stupid, very, very stupid. The last 3/4 of this class were spent with stupid presentations because she was too stupid to teach it herself. Do not take a class with her. Pray she gets fired from MSU.

Professor Edwards is by far the worst Prof I've ever encountered at MSU. She cancelled 7 of our classes, was late allll the time (i mean 10-15 mins) and still she was strict on attendance for students..(part of our grade) she took attendance and if you walked in after your name was called you were absent for the day.
She graded papers ridiculously hard, and set very strict guidelines for them, and if you didnt interpret or agree with the topic/philosopher in the same way as her, she marked you down. she grades on both content and form...but to be honest I dont think she knows the difference between the two. She talks quiet, she is not a informative/interesting teacher, ive learned nothing i couldnt have learned on my own by just skimming the book. She doesnt really let students 'discuss' class is mostly just her talking in her 'sophisticated philosophy lingo' and when someone asked what she meant...shed say.."well I'm not sure how to define that per se"...for example, she used the word "dogma" then couldnt define what she meant/it meant when a guy in our class asked.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER if you can avoid it

She is absolutely horrid. Not only did we have an exam every other week, but her lectures were terrible and she doesn't explain the material in ways that us "non-philosophy" majors can understand. She uses big words that she probably doesn't even know the meaning just to make her exams and lectures sound decent. Her multiple choice questions on the exams are worded horribly so that we have no idea what she is trying to ask, whereas we obviously get it wrong and don't do as well... THESE THINGS AREN'T EVEN THE WORSE PART! I got terribly sick and had to go to the hospital. My mom wrote all of my professors FROM MY E-MAIL letting them know that I wasn't able to attend classes much less do anything else. She writes back telling my mom that she can't give her any information regarding my schooling without my consent. DUH, obviously she wrote her from MY e-mail... I missed about a week and a half of school so at this point I missed 2 of her exams and our 7 page paper. She recommended me to DROP the class "for my best benefit" even though I told her I was planning on graduating in the spring and needed these credits. She didn't believe I was actually sick so I showed her my hospital discharge papers and they weren't even good enough. Finally I scanned my hospital bracelet to prove more than enough that I had been sick. She gave me specific times and specific days that she would "allow" me to make-up these exams and seeing that I had class during those times I wasn't able to. She was so unwilling to work with me and so concerned about herself or what would be inconvenient for HER that she didn't think about how overwhelming missing a week in a half of school would be, being in the hospital, on top of that still staying up to date with what i was learning currently, ON TOP OF THAT 2 weeks before finals week. I looked up her credentials and under "degree" it was blank and said she was a visiting professor... Stay away from her at all costs... She does NOT care about her students and deserves all the respect she gave me... NONE.

As a Zoology major with absolutely no prior philosophy courses under my belt I have to say that this was the easiest 300 level elective I have ever taken. All you need to do well in this class is have 1)an opinion, and 2)decent writing skills.
We talk about every paper topic in depth so you don't even really need to do the reading as long as you come to class.
Yes she is late to class but that really only cuts down on small group discussion time which is too long in my opinion anyway. She is good at starting discussion and coming up with interesting topics for the day.

i don't know about the other classes she has taught but for IAH 231B she was a good professor. she may occasionally call on you in class to explain your opinion on issues but that's to get the class going on discussion...she is sometimes late but depends on who you are if you get really annoyed by it or not...her grading was half multiple choice and half essay which was fair if you did the assigned readings...i had a harder time with the multiple choice questions than the essay part but some students did well in both...there are many interesting movies which breaks the time from just all reading and has interesting topics of discussion

Worst professor I have ever had. Yes, everything everyone has said is true. I think the longest she was late for class was 45 minutes one day. Pretty impressive. Then she was a week late getting grades in, so everyone had to sit with an NGR for a week wondering about their grades.
I got a 4.0 on the paper, which she put me down for a 3.0 on angel and I had to have her correct. Then, she has my total grade for the class as a 4.0 on Angel. She finally gets the class grades sent in, I have a 3.5. She has already taken down angel, so no use showing her that. She claims she just made a mistake AGAIN on angel, and I should have a 3.5. So I guess she can just do whatever she wants with your grades.
I am actually offended that my tuition goes to pay her. She does not deserve a job at McDonalds, let alone as a college professor

She is a bad professor in some terms. She is late ALL the time. Her lectures are TERRIBLE. I sent her an email asking to clarify the 4 features of the overlapping consensus and she replied, "The 4 features of the overlapping consensus are its characteristics. How would you characterize it? Hope this helps." WOW, WHAT AN IDIOT!!! However, you don't have to go to class. She gives the possible exam essays before the exams, and the multiple choice questions are right from the reading. I needed a 3.25 on the final exam to 4.0 the class. (I haven't gotten my grade back but I think I did cause it wasn't hard.) She sucks as a professor, but her class isn't bad and her grading is pretty easy.

The ONLY reason she's not getting a 0.0 which she probably deserves is bc I'm getting a 3.0 in the class and only went a few times other than exams and when the paper was due. Everything the other posts have said about her is true. The material is pretty good stuff, but she honestly doesnt' know how to present it. Her notes to take for the class are horrific, the way she goes over the readings is terrible, and so on and so on. I don't know how, but I got a 4.0 on 1 exam and 3.5 on the paper so that helped with the grade, she must be lenient on the written part of the exams and the paperl, and it is at least best 3 out of 4 exams. But yeah, she shows up late constantly or doesn't show at all and leaves it up to the T.A., which is probably the only plus for this class. He is the chairman of the board for the Michigan Lottery, I have no clue why he's T.A.ing for this class or for her, weird. Not a bad class, horrible professor if you actually want to learn.

This class was horrible. The professor is horrible at lecturing. She asks if you have any questions on the material and you have no idea where you begin. She cancels class a lot and shows up late all the time. She left in the middle of class once to move her car and didn't come back for a half an hour. The material in the class is enjoyable, but don't take it from this professor.

This is the WORST professor ever. Avoid her at all costs. First of all she is not a interesting lecturer because she has a soft voice and every time someone asks her to speak up she only does it for two minutes. I don't know how I stayed awake. She is sometime confused herself about the information she is talking about. She thinks class participation is calling on someone who she thinks needs to talk today. She does not believe in powerpoint or putting detailed notes up. She thinks she is so smart thats why she uses big words in lecture and on the exams. If you think that you are going to have a review day before the exam she will cancel class. You never know what grade you are getting out of the class because she gives people grades like execellent, good, average, poor. I do think I am a senior in college not high school. Get this she didn't even come to the final and left everything up to the TA. Poor man was so out of the loop we had to take the final 30 minutes later because he forgot to get enough for the entire class. I don't know how he only walked into class with 7 exams. Well I could go on and on about this prof but to sum it up if you want to sit at home everyday and worry about what you are getting out of this class take it.

WARNING: Do NOT take this class with THIS PROF!!!! I am a 4.0 student and up until this semester of my Junior year I have recieved nothing but 4.0's but this lady effectively ruined my track record! You have no idea how you are doing on tests, she barely makes it to class, allows you to beleive you are doing well and then you get your final grade and find out she had no idea what she was talking about! This class was an EXTREME DISAPPOINTMENT!! Take the class- just not with Professor Tracy Edwards! You will learn nothing from her. A group of us are currently trying to get her reviewed by the dean. Enough said.

Horrifyingly bad, which is a shame since the material is interesting. No real feedback on how you're doing in the class at any point in the term, poor speaking voice, does not stimulate discussion. Her TA did a far better job all around. He had a little trouble dealing with the nit-picky prick that seems to be in every class, but still easily the better of the two. The test material is straight from the book, which is probably a benefit: You don't have to show up except for the in-class exam days. Made it out of there with a fairly good grade, but wouldn't take another class with her unless I had to. Avoid at all costs.
